The Inn’s Rich History

The Montville Inn is a warm, inviting space located just off the beaten path in suburban Montville, NJ.  Built circa 1770, the original Mandeville Inn, pronounced Mondeveil, was constructed by early Dutch settlers.  It eventually became Montville’s namesake in 1800 when the town was officially incorporated.  The Mandeville Inn was destroyed by a fire in the early 1900’s.  When it was re-built, it was named the Montville Inn.  The building underwent several incarnations as a restaurant and bar, and eventually went into disrepair.  The property was purchased in 2004 and underwent a complete transformation.

The Montville Inn Today

In 2007, the restaurant was completely re-built with the intent to capture the original essence of the Montville Inn. Today’s incarnation is complete with a wrap-around porch, gorgeous copper bar, two private dining rooms, and a cozy main dining area, whose decor features historic photos of Montville and the surrounding towns. It is the pride of owner TJ Nelligan, a long-time resident of Montville, whose family has been here for generations.
Today’s Montville Inn is a neighborhood restaurant where guests can enjoy everything from relaxed, family meals to date nights or even business meetings. The unique comfort food and fresh, creative specials offer something for everyone. Stop by and see us today!
